Increase Your Resilience
Resilience Defined and Why We Need it
Our personal and professional lives present us all with unexpected and usually unwelcome challenges. Life during and since the pandemic has increased and exacerbated those challenges. We may not be able to avoid life’s curveballs but we can increase and sustain our resilience.
HeartMath provide us with the following useful definition of resilience
“Resilience is the capacity to prepare for, recover from and adapt in the face of stress, challenge or adversity.”
By increasing our resilience capacity we have greater ability and energy to self-regulate our emotions, to bounce back and rapidly recover from a challenge. Greater resilience also results in more effective analysis and decision making.
The consensus used to be that resilience was an innate trait. Numerous studies have since demonstrated that resilience is learned and dynamic and can be developed.
The Science of Resilience
The science of resilience is uncovering the important relationship between physiology and psychology, along with the impact of genetics, epigenetics, environmental factors and neuroplasticity.
One of the most exciting developments, pioneered by HeartMath, is the discovery of the importance of coherence between the brain and heart, and it’s significant impact on stress and resilience.
These discoveries and insights have enabled the development of simple but effective strategies and techniques for
